About Zora’s Seafood Market and Kitchen

Since 1956, Zora’s Seafood Market has been a Castle Street institution, serving up fresh local catch with a warmth and charm that makes everyone feel at home. Known for its buzzing market and community energy, Zora’s is the place locals and visitors flock to for boiled shrimp, crispy fried fish, fresh fillets, and feisty crabs. It’s all about the joy of flavor-packed seafood.

Our seafood market is growing, bringing more of the Carolina coast to your plate. Alongside the usual favorites—fish, shrimp, oysters, and crabs—we’re adding carefully picked seasonal and sustainable catches like grouper, tilefish, tuna, and swordfish. Each item is chosen for quality, freshness, and a strong connection to local waters.

I love seafood and the fish is very fresh and they fried very fast. The staff super friendly.

The fish on the counter looked fantastic, and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh, I described the fish sandwich as like summer in a bite. We sat through multiple rounds of heavy rain, but we stayed nice and dry.

This was a real surprise! I really enjoyed the fried shrimp basket. If I remember right, I paid $12 and it was the exact amount.I needed. There was a little bit of old bay seasoning in the batter, which was just enough. I always hate it when people put too much old bay seasoning on the shrimp and you can't taste it. Also they have fresh seafood there. It is some of the freshest seafood I ever seen. The eyes on the fish were clear and bright. Which i'm told is how you determine how fresh it is. 🙂

First of all, FRESHEST fish in town. Wow. Selection is a bit smaller than some places but fresher and cleaner. The staff is so attentive and kind, went above and beyond. I hadn’t had lunch so I also tried their Kitchen and my god that BBQ Swordfish Sandwich was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted! I was so pleased and impressed. The homemade sauces were also incredible. (I tried all three but that Hot Vinegar sauce is especially nice!) Thank you Zora’s for a wonderful experience. Next level indeed!

So my peeps, this is a hidden gem in Wilmington NC. I had people tell me it was very good. Well, it’s well beyond good. First, I walk in to this little. ‘Mom and Pop small business’ and I’m immediately greeted by the staff. Very welcoming. Saw some people waiting on their order so I went to the window. I was greeted by a wonderful hostess who was very forthcoming with information as I asked many questions! She set me up with a shrimp and crab boil and I added their collard greens to the order along with some hush puppies. They were very busy and the staff continued conversations with me while I waited. I learned the original name was Zora’s and that the new owner brought back the old name. This place has been there for years! One of the staff educated me a lil on how they clean blue crab for frying which I thought was amazing that she went out of the way to do so. Now to the food. Their signature butter sauce on the boil was absolutely full of flavor and spice. Delicious! Perfectly cooked and everything was amazing. The greens were cooked to perfection and the flavor reminded me of how my grandmother used to make. The his puppies were flavorful and well prepared! All in
